Connection and interaction are at the heart of Senna HongThe latest body of work by , placing minimally rendered figures amidst abstract landscapes. Through irregular brushstrokes of acrylic and oil pastel, the Los Angeles-based artist contrasts the dull colors of the subjects’ limbs or clothing with the rough and mottled environments they occupy. Generally tiny compared to their surroundings, the figures remain anonymous and adventurous, exploring ethereal expanses. Voluptuous fields of orange, large stones in pink and red and mountains of random signs appear like distant inventions of a dream.
The works shown here are on display this week as part of I murmuredHong’s latest solo exhibition a Contemporary Hashimoto in New York. Composed of vibrant paintings and grainy colored pencil drawings, the exhibition reflects the experience of re-emerging into public space after the pandemic. Firmly in discovery mode, the figures traverse the otherworldly landscapes and stormy weather events and come together as they form new bonds between humanity and nature.
I murmured it is visible until 1 July. Find out more from Hong onwards his site AND Instagram.
