Seemingly floating over vast brick exteriors and inside huge specimen boxes, huge butterflies stretch their wings, casting a soft shadow on the building facades. Now based on both sides of the Atlantic, Switzerland and Mexico City, French artist Mantras (previously) continues to lean on the passion, curiosity and respect he has for nature. Pursuing his childhood dreams of becoming a naturalist, the artist’s signature exploration of Lepidoptera through freehand acrylic murals is monumental.

Mantra is inspired by the seemingly effortless movements and movements of insects that are, in fact, incredibly complex. He explains to Colossal that “it’s challenging enough to study a butterfly so closely that your presence won’t disturb it. Their flight patterns are unpredictable and they rarely spend much time resting on a leaf or flower. However, that’s exactly what fascinates me. » The artist has also had recent opportunities to affirm his practice, such as accompanying a voluntary research and census program by the Cerro Prieto community within the Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve in Mexico.

As she works on her first museum exhibit in the US, which is due to open next year, can you keep up with her work on her Instagram AND website.
